C0765Generic code

C0765 Code: Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor

The C0765 code means the tire pressure module is not getting a valid signal from the right rear wheel sensor. The sensor battery may be dead, or the sensor may be damaged or not programmed.

What the C0765 code means

Each wheel has a pressure sensor inside the rim, next to the valve, that transmits the pressure and temperature by radio. The TPMS module learns the ID of each sensor and its position.

If the module stops receiving the right rear wheel sensor, or its data is not valid, it stores the C0765 code and turns on the tire pressure warning light, which often flashes at startup.

The sensor battery cannot be replaced and usually lasts 5 to 10 years. The code also appears after tires or wheels are changed if the new sensors are not programmed.

Important: many C and B codes are not generic. The definition on this page is the most widespread one, used by General Motors and most generic scan tools, but on other makes the same number can mean something else. Always confirm the code text with a scan tool that reads the right module (ABS, body or airbag).

C0765 code symptoms

  • Tire pressure warning light on or flashing.
  • The pressure of that wheel does not show on the dash.

Likely causes of the C0765 code

  1. Dead sensor battery. The most common cause on sensors more than 6 years old.
  2. Sensor damaged during a tire change. Confirm it by comparing its reading with the real value.
  3. Sensor not programmed after the wheels were rotated or changed.
  4. Wheel without a sensor. For example, a spare wheel or new rims.

How to diagnose the C0765 code step by step

  1. Check the real pressure with a tire gauge.
  2. Read the sensor with a TPMS tool to see whether it transmits and what its battery status is.
  3. Program or relearn the sensors using the manufacturer procedure.

How to fix the C0765 code

  • Replace the sensor if its battery is dead or it is damaged.
  • Program the position of the sensors.
  • Clear the C0765 code and verify.

Technical reference data

  • Usual sensor frequency: 315 MHz in the Americas and 433 MHz in Europe.
  • Typical sensor battery life: 5 to 10 years.
  • These values are approximate. Check the manufacturer data for your vehicle.

Brand-specific notes

Whenever the tires are rotated, the sensor positions have to be relearned, or the module will keep reporting the wrong wheel.

C0765 on Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac and Buick

This code is common on these makes. After rotating the wheels, run the position learning procedure.

Frequently asked questions about C0765

What does the C0765 code mean?
It means the tire pressure module is not getting a valid signal from the sensor on the right rear wheel.
Can I drive with a C0765 code?
Yes, as long as you check the tire pressure by hand. The C0765 code means the system cannot warn you about that wheel.
Is it dangerous?
Not by itself, but check the pressure by hand until it is repaired.
Can the sensor battery be replaced?
No. Normally the whole sensor is replaced.
How much does it cost to fix C0765?
Roughly between $40 and $150 for a sensor.
Will a C0765 code clear itself?
Only if the signal was temporarily blocked. A dead battery or an unprogrammed sensor will keep the light on.
