P0467 Code: Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Low Input

The P0467 code indicates that the EVAP purge flow sensor signal is below its minimum value. The main effect is an incomplete EVAP monitor. Most of the time there are no other driving symptoms.

What the P0467 code means

Some vehicles have a sensor that confirms the vapors from the canister are really flowing into the engine when the purge valve opens.

The sensor gets a 5 V reference and a ground from the computer and sends back a signal between roughly 0.5 and 4.5 V. The P0467 code is a low signal, which is usually caused by the signal wire shorted to ground or by a missing reference.

If the signal fails, the computer cannot verify the purge and turns on the check engine light. It does not usually affect driving, but it keeps the EVAP monitor from completing.

To confirm it, unplug the component with the key on and watch what happens to the reading or the code. If the value jumps to the opposite extreme, the wiring is fine and the component is the one pulling the signal to ground. If it does not change, look for the short in the wire, starting where the harness rubs against the engine, the chassis or the exhaust.

P0467 code symptoms

  • Check engine light on.
  • EVAP monitor incomplete.
  • Emissions monitor incomplete, so the vehicle cannot pass inspection.
  • Often there are no other driving symptoms.

Likely causes of the P0467 code

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground from rubbing or heat.
  2. 5 V reference shorted, if other sensors are also failing.
  3. Damaged sensor with an internal short.
  4. Connector with water. Very common on sensors mounted under the vehicle.

How to diagnose the P0467 code step by step

  1. Read the sensor value on the scan tool and compare it with what you expect.
  2. Inspect the connector for corrosion, water or loose pins.
  3. Check the reference and ground with the key on (5 V, and less than 0.1 V of voltage drop on the ground).
  4. Measure the signal with the connector plugged in and see whether it changes with conditions.
  5. Do a wiggle test on the wiring.
  6. Check continuity to the computer.
  7. Command the purge with the scan tool and watch whether the signal changes.

How to fix the P0467 code

  • Repair the connector or the wiring.
  • Replace the sensor if the tests confirm it is bad.
  • Correct the real condition if there is one (a leak or a blockage).
  • Clear the codes and complete a drive cycle so the monitor runs.

Technical reference data

  • 5 V reference, ground and signal.
  • Approximate values only: check the manufacturer data for your engine.

Brand-specific notes

This is an uncommon code, found mostly on some older vehicles.

P0467 on Chrysler

It is typical of some older Chrysler models.

P0467 on Ford

It is typical of some older Ford models.

Frequently asked questions about P0467

Can I drive with a P0467 code?
Yes. A P0467 code usually carries no immediate risk. The problem is the emissions inspection.
Do I have to replace the sensor?
Only if the tests confirm it. The connector and the wiring fail just as often as the sensor.
Will I pass the inspection with this code?
No. The check engine light being on, or the monitor being incomplete, keeps the vehicle from passing.
How much does it cost to fix P0467?
Roughly $40 to $300, depending on whether it is a connector, wiring or the sensor itself.
What does the P0467 code mean?
It is a generic OBD2 code that means the EVAP purge flow sensor circuit is sending a signal below its minimum value, usually from a short to ground or a missing reference.
What is the most common cause of P0467?
A signal wire shorted to ground from rubbing or heat, or water in the connector. A sensor with an internal short is the other usual suspect.
